Unveiling Self-Care Through Quotes and Imagery

I wrote the following in my newsletter and thought you might also find it useful. I took a break from writing for a couple of weeks, and coming across these quotes during that time kept me encouraged and motivated me to take care of myself. Here:

You can't pour out of an empty cup, AND you can only truly give from your overflow - John Obidi:

I thought "you can't pour out of an empty cup" was enough in itself until I heard this from John Obidi a few weeks ago! I think it makes sense - a cup that pours must be one that consistently experiences overflow, or it runs the risk of going empty and not being able to give at all.

This means you've got to take care of yourself first (i.e., fill up your own cup because what's in your cup is for YOU) before giving to others out of your overflow. This is how to give sustainably and effectively and how to ensure long-term success if you intend to remain a person of influence.

Sometimes, you have to STEAL your STILL - Debola Deji-Kurunmi:

If giving from an overflow sounds like a luxury in this day and age, it's because it is. I'll admit, it's not easy these days; so many things are happening at once! Because of this, you have to be intentional and sometimes a little bit creative about carving out time for yourself to create pockets of peace and calm in the midst of a hectic life.

This is the only time I think it's okay to steal something, though. So, if you find you're constantly not having enough time for yourself, this is your sign - maybe it's time to steal it back so you can fill yourself up and give from your overflow.

3hrs @ 300F is not the same as 1hr at 900F.

Finally, I saw this while roaming the streets of the internet, and it made so much sense too! It illustrates that sometimes, things simply just need time. Not everything can be fast-tracked. Wisdom is allowing oneself to go through due process so one doesn't end up as a burnt turkey or undercooked chicken.

To wrap up, here are two questions I have for you:

  • How are you making time to take care of yourself first, so you can effectively give to others?

  • As you seek results in your various pursuits, where do you need to give yourself a break and partner with time to find what you seek?

That's all from me; make it a great week!
